Crossing the A53 in Loggerheads

Tuesday 28 January 2020

In October 2019 we were pleased to be able to thank our retiring school crossing patrollers, Rosie Machin and Ken Vorster for their outstanding service to our local community. We advertised for replacements but so far no-one has come forward to apply for the job.  The crossing is being covered most days on a temporary basis by Staffordshire County Council who fund the crossing patrol.  They send someone when they can but we need to recruit two people to have a regular presence on the crossing in Loggerheads.  If you are interested please call Paul Hankey on 07966 328833 or email him paul.hankey@staffordshire.gov.uk.  A feasibility assessment has also been commissioned by County Councillor Paul Northcott to look at the options for a more permanent solution to crossing the A53 in the centre of Loggerheads.

IMPROVING ROAD SAFETY IN LOGGERHEADS

These are the signs that flash your speed at you as you approach them and remind you to Slow Down if you are travelling at more than 30mph, the speed limit for both these roads. We already have one on Mucklestone Road and another at Hookgate.  The first and oldest on the A53 at the BT Telephone Exchange is battery operated and will be replaced with a solar power sign in spring.  Our local Speed Watch volunteers are active in Mucklestone, Knighton and Loggerheads and are always looking for new volunteers so they can be more active.  If you are interested please contact Karen on 01630 673426 or email loggerheadspc@btconnect.com
